Tiggle Down Economics
The Story
3 guys talking about Zamboni driver salary, Andre Drummond's career arc, and the Russini Files
Thomas: Game six. But other than that
Jackson: I was trying to I know it did do the time. I was trying to describe it to my mom about like the game and I was like as someone who knows very little about hockey, like I think that the hurricanes are essentially like the Bills. They're just good in the regular season and then lights too bright in the postseason every time.
Todd: I've done Do they have like a Alan type? Like a a a star guy?
Thomas: Yeah, I mean that is how it normally is. Yeah, I mean like they have a couple dudes. Like they're they're goalie, like Frederick Anderson's been in the league for like a long time. But it's funny 'cause like you say the Bills are like the the Hurricanes are the Bills. It's kinda like Frederick Anderson like is the Bills. Like he's been on a couple teams, but he's just like never been able to get over the hump. He's like a regular season merchant. Like kind of. So it's just funny that like he's on the team. Which one? ⁓ Seth Jarvis.
Jackson: I don't know. Yeah. Do they have that like Asian dude still? He's Er isn't there some dude with a last name that starts with like E?
Thomas: ⁓ there's one but he's not Asian, he's like Russian, it's like Nikolai Ellers.
Jackson: ⁓ okay. That's probably what I was thinking of, but wrong one.
Thomas: Well, ⁓ this is this is episode one of the the five to nine podcast, fellas. ⁓ you're gonna see where see where this goes. Pod, sports pod. Five to nine. Todd came up with that idea. Yeah, yeah. Well, ⁓ I mean, we were just talking about it. The the Flyers Hurricanes game, two one Flyers, my Flyers right now. Obviously, I have some some skin in the game, but I know Todd was saying before we hopped on, it's kind of like
Jackson: Yeah, I
Todd: Fun.
Jackson: Five to nine. We did the nine to five. We're on the five to nine now.
Thomas: Now's a good time to kinda like get into it, not really like watching all that hockey, you know?
Todd: Yeah, no, I d I don't I watch hockey ever. It's since like the Blackhawks have sucked. So now it's like right now is like when it's time for me to like
Jackson: Same.
Thomas: Yeah.
Jackson: How's Bedard though? Did Bedard have a good year?
Todd: Dude, I couldn't tell ya. ⁓
Thomas: He always has a good year. Yeah nah, he he's good. He's good. They're just like everyone else in the Blackhawks, but like
Todd: ⁓ I remember he got like hurt, like someone he someone like cheap shot him in the beginning of the year and like fucked up his shoulder.
Thomas: Something like that. Yeah, he he was injured at one point.
Todd: And then
Jackson: City of Philly's up though right now. For the moment. It was cause the beginning of the year fucking sucked for y'all because it was just the Philly stinking butt. And it looked like the Sixers could have like maybe not even made the actual playoffs. And now Flyers won a series. We got the Sixers upset in the Celtics too.
Thomas: Facts. Yeah, yeah. Game one for the Knicks too. Well ⁓
Todd: It's like bad for the world.
Thomas: Ha ha. Yeah. And Bede's emergency epandectomy was like the end of the Sixer season. For what I thought. He's ridiculous. I d I don't I don't know. That was sick. Obviously we have a lot of a lot of Boston fans. If they're listening, the Celtics suck. ⁓ three one choke. But
Jackson: Yeah. And he somehow just plays
Todd: Yeah, it's
Jackson: Yeah. That's like how many collapses in the past couple of years? It's been there was last year. No, the Celtics. 'Cause bef the before they won the title they collapsed to the Warriors. Well, collapse or not, but they probably should have won that series, and then last year to the Knicks, and then this year now with ⁓ with the Sixers.
Thomas: Shoot, I mean like for the Celtics or just in the NBA? ⁓ Mm. I mean this has gotta be the worst one. Like what, three one and to the a gu a team that hasn't beaten you in a series in what, forty something years or whatever it was?
Jackson: Yeah.
Todd: Is there like a a community of Sixers fans in Tulsa, Oklahoma? Like is there like is there somewhere where you guys go to watch like I mean they're the the Philly fans are poisonous. They use they spread and they they come together. So I'm I'm assuming there's gonna be like a group.
Jackson: I do they were like
Thomas: No Yeah, fun funny enough, the dude that like he kinda like left the team that I worked for, like right before I started working for him. His name's PJ. He still lives in Tulsa, he's about to move out of state though, but he's like the same thing as me. Like we almost kind of look the same too. And he's a Philly sports fan. So like I'll text him almost every day, especially now with like all the Philly stuff going on. And like we watched game four, I think. Yeah, game four of the Flyers Penguin series when the when the ⁓ Flyers went up three zero. But like yeah, him and I were just ⁓ we're just chatting back and forth on like all the Philly stuff. But there's not really like I don't know. There's a lot of a lot of Kansas City, so it's almost like an annoying fan base. But at the same time, like when the Eagles beat him in the Super Bowl, it was it was fun. But
Jackson: ⁓ yeah, I was definitely watching that one. What about like Tulsa Magic City? Any good strip joints?
Thomas: Yeah, I mean like I I haven't been myself, but there there's a few by the office that are like about as run down as they come, you know. So Platy West from college.
Todd: A few.
Jackson: I was gonna say what what are the top three things to do on a on a sunny day in Tulsa, Oklahoma?
Thomas: ⁓ probably go to Oklahoma City. ⁓ I mean there's a there's a cool little like outdoor area that the city built that's like on the Arkansas River. There's like parks and all that type of stuff. I mean like it looks cool, but you'd only spend so much time walking in circles, you know. So Oklahoma City's where it's at though. That place is fun. ⁓ Paycom, yeah.
Jackson: Okay. So get away from Tulsa. He's number one. Yeah. Well, they're they're fucking up right now. I mean, we if they get past the Spurs, I mean, they're just gonna walk to a second title. No one out of the East is gonna stop them.
Thomas: Yeah, I mean yeah, no, and I feel like the Lakers too, like I don't know when Donchit's coming back, like if at all, is he coming back that series?
Jackson: I it there's been like no good updates that I've heard.
Todd: series? I don't know about this series. Maybe next.
Thomas: Okay. Not there ain't gonna be in next series if he doesn't play this one. There's no way they beat the Thunder.
Jackson: Yeah. I mean it's just as LeBron get them a game or are they swept? I think he I think they lose in five.
Todd: I really didn't even think they were gonna win a game on the Rockets and then they
Thomas: Yeah.
Jackson: And the Rockets were minus nine hundred in that series.
Thomas: Fair.
Todd: Yeah. Yeah.
Thomas: That's wild. That's actual donation. Why would you even bet that at that point?
Jackson: Yeah. Well it was crazy too. I mean, and then the choke that happened with the magic, like being a eight seed and being up three to one on a one seed and then just blowing that and then firing your coach today.
Thomas: Yeah, I mean I feel like it was kinda like they were gonna fire their coach and then they got to three one and it was like, Hey, like maybe if we finish this thing off we're not gonna fire him.
Jackson: Yeah. Dude. I was thinking about that today because I was like, ⁓ you know how like if you're on like Cal she or whatever, you can take like the real life things. Like there was probably a thing like Mosley to be fired. Like if you took that before the playoffs started, you were sitting pretty, and then imagine the sweat as they go up three one, like fuck, they may hold on to this guy. And now that shit caches. They were probably hoping they blew that series just so they could fire him. I th I feel like it's been turmoil all year with them.
Thomas: Yeah. No, that was crazy. Yeah. I didn't realise it'd been five years that he was the head coach there. I thought it was shorter than that.
Jackson: Yeah. Like Loki one of the longest Yeah, like one of the longest tenured coaches out of nowhere.
Thomas: Yeah, know. Kinda wild. I don't know. They're you know, I grew up in Orlando, so like that's like the I've been to more magic game than Sixers games, but Sixers are still like my theme. But I know, I mean I went to the Magic like the
Jackson: Yeah. I drove past the arena when we went to the Cheese It Bowl.
Thomas: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Kia Kia Center. It was the Amway Center when I was there. Now it's the Kia Center.
Jackson: We'll say we'll say.
Todd: cheesa ball was such a disaster man. It was such a disaster. I'm pretty sure cheddar cheese it or whatever name like died.
Jackson: Yeah, the cheeser bowl was not was not ideal. Well 'cause
Thomas: Ha ha.
Jackson: Yeah. The ch well, someone got and also someone got married on the field at the Cheese It Bowl. Like there's no way that marriage still exists. They're definitely fucking divorced.
Todd: Love it.
Thomas: Dude, dude, I'll do you one better. We do ⁓ for people that don't know where I work, I guess a lot a lot of our buddies do, but like I work with a ECHL team in Tulsa, Oklahoma. And then ⁓ that's like the s double A hockey league and then we also have an indoor football team. But we'll do like you're talking about proposals like we do, like people have proposed at our games and like we set it up and like put it up on like the Jumbotron and all that. Like you're talking about like the cheese it bowl, like that's like a step
Jackson: No. I need dude, I need like a case study on that. Like I need someone really smart like smarter than me to look up like the percentage of successful marriages where people get married at a sporting event. It can't be high.
Thomas: Like no, there's no way. Because it's it's gotta be like a one sided thing. Like I can't
Jackson: Like I know that the girls hate that ninety percent of the time unless they're like a squid. Yeah.
Todd: Yeah, no, 'cause they like have to say yes. Because they have to say you can't say.
Thomas: He basically
Jackson: It's like a performative engagement.
Thomas: Yeah. ⁓ no, it it's literally for clicks, but it's like real life. It's like for views, for attention. There's just so many better ways.
Jackson: Which one of our which one of our friends most likely ⁓ I thought of it before I which one of our friends most likely to propose at a at a sports game? ⁓ I was gonna say I was gonna say Cal.
Todd: Barbow.
Thomas: ⁓ Cal, that's a good one. That's a good one. No, that's a good pull.
Todd: ⁓ what a random one.
Jackson: Arbo could do Arbo if only if like he would do it if the Celtics won. Like if the Cel like if they lost, he's putting the ring back in his pocket. He may be selling it to fund the tickets and the bets. But like if they won, I think he's going all in.
Thomas: Like a a big win. Like imagine like they just won a championship ring and he just like pulls it out of there. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I can see it.
Jackson: Yeah. Any new listeners, that's that's me and Todd's former roommate. Real ⁓ he li he likes to gamble. He's a good guy. He's like the rest of us.
Todd: Yeah.
Thomas: Ha ha.
Todd: Yeah. I mean if you're pulling the wedding or the engagement at the game, it's like you you have doubts that she's gonna say yes. You have to you have to get the crowd to
Thomas: Yeah, of course. I mean, what can you do, right?
Jackson: Yeah. ⁓
Thomas: Ha ha. So it's almost forcing her in. It's like you said, she has to say yes.
Todd: Yeah.
Jackson: Trying to think of I mean, I can't think of many like worse spots to get rejected than at the game. Like 'cause then there's always the chance it it could double down and then your team loses. Like and then you're just doubly fucked. Yeah. ⁓ you it's very possible.
Thomas: Just ⁓ for two. Yeah, no. Yeah, yeah. I get that.
Todd: You got
Jackson: What what about so you you you also cover and work for i indoor football. What's the difference between indoor arena football and like regular football?
Thomas: Yeah. Dude, there's more than you thought. There's a lot of rules. Like if so the football the field's only it's like half the distance. Like midfield's twenty five yards. So it's like and then I mean it literally fits on the same dimensions as like a sheet of ice that we have. We'll literally pull up the ice and put in the turf when we switch seasons. And it's like we just rock with that. But like the
Jackson: For like being really dumb, how do they go from it being ice to it being turf? Like does it just sit on top?
Thomas: They literally like pull out well, for our game, because we did our first home game, we had our last hockey game of the season the day before. So they put the turf on top and like that's fine. But like once hockey season's like over, which it was after April seventeenth, they literally take the ice like out. And like the bottom layer is like what they use for concerts, and then it's like the turf on top.
Jackson: Uh-huh. ⁓ okay. Well is it I mean, there's still a decent amount of NBA teams that are playing like in the same thing as hockey. Like I know Detroit does. Did do the Flyers, I assume?
Thomas: Yeah. Yeah, Xfinities for the Sixers too. ⁓ I mean they just changed that name, obviously, but like both teams still still play there. So that's definitely one of the teams that do it. And then yeah, the Pistons. ⁓ technically the Magic do because they actually have an ECHL team, the league that my team's in. So I think that they'll do it too. But like the seasons kind of cross over. I mean, hockey season's October to April, so yeah, it crosses over.
Todd: much is the guy that sorry to interrupt, how much does the guy that does the Zamboni get paid? Do you think? And like especially in like the the the the like kind of the minor league where you're at. Like are those guys making a livable wage? Like is that their only gig?
Thomas: Mm-hmm. That's a great question. I'll tell you in terms of Zamboni.
Jackson: Yeah.
Thomas: Definitely not. There's no way that's a full time job. There's no way.
Jackson: I mean it's a way you could make money. Just like people I've always wanted to ride a Zamboni. If you offered a price like you get to drive the Zamboni tonight, I don't know how you'd make that like stay.
Todd: I don't think they're just I think you need some sort of training and like you can't just
Jackson: Probably.
Thomas: Yeah. We have a seat on ours that people can sit on and like drive around with them. That's what we sell. And then we have like a fan.
Jackson: Is it like one of those like is it like the Indiana Jones motorcycle thing where it's like the little sidecar?
Thomas: I no, no, it's like literally like imagine like a Zamboni and then where the dude's sitting just like on the side to the left, there's just like another seat. And it's just like it's just there. And they're just kind of strapped in. And like that's all it is.
Todd: Feel like how much ⁓
Thomas: Ha ha.
Jackson: I heard some jingling, I was like, What the fuck is she doing it?
Todd: Let's see. What what do we think the NHL Zambonier gets bid?
Jackson: Zamboner.
Thomas: ⁓ my god. ⁓ there's no way even that's full time. 'Cause you're only doing it first in season.
Jackson: I mean I'm trying to think of like what I would put it head to head. Like would you get paid more being the the
Thomas: I'm comparing that to like a a person that covers up baseball fields.
Jackson: I'm the I was thinking like restaurant direction. I was like, are we talking McDonald's or are we talking chilies? Like ⁓ NHL?
Thomas: ⁓
Todd: In the NHL?
Thomas: Do you have the number? Do you have the number?
Todd: I'm talking about NHL. I just I just Googled it. I have Google's answer. Like probably AI. Well I wanna hear some guesses.
Jackson: What yeah what
Thomas: What's Google's answer?
Jackson: I'm saying s I'm saying seventy five K a year.
Thomas: ⁓ my god.
Todd: Pretty nice.
Jackson: NHL there's only thirty spots.
Thomas: Yeah, but there's only so many games. There's no way. I'm thinking like thirty five.
Jackson: True. I don't know. Okay.
Thomas: Todd, what's the number?
Todd: NHL Zim the description's a little odd. NHL Zimbone drivers are top earners landing in the 90th percentile. They are typically paid in a range of twenty-nine to thirty-one thousand dollars. So a top earner a top earner of who? Who like what you what is the what category of earners are they in? Where thirty one thousand is the top.
Jackson: Can That's the ninety eighth percentile? Damn art.
Thomas: Okay, so even I highballed it.
Jackson: Of yeah, of of the entire sports industry.
Thomas: Zimboni drivers across the United States.
Jackson: I know.
Thomas: ⁓ man. Yeah, there's that sounds right. Yeah. Yeah, they're they're in there with the ushers and the the managers and the janitors.
Jackson: Top errors of minimum wage sports arena people?
Todd: Doms?
Jackson: That's our industry right there, dude. Future's looking bright.
Thomas: Yeah, you're dang right it is. Yeah. They're the ninetieth percentile though when it comes to me.
Jackson: Do you do they have to go through like like do you have to do a really good job in the minor leagues to get promoted? Like is it like the referees and shit or like announcers?
Thomas: I don't know. I there's definitely certification, hundred percent.
Todd: There's no way it's the commentator to Zamboni pipeline cannot be that
Jackson: Well no, no, not that. Like in j like do if you make it to the major leagues of NHL Zambonian, like did you start in like the minor league Zambonian and you moved up? Like you got promoted, you got the call up? I know, yeah. The Zamboni foreign system?
Thomas: Farm system, yeah, there's ⁓ Boni drivers or in their farm systems.
Todd: think you probably just like grew up with like a little bit of autism and you like just like love Zambonian and like you're just like this is all you can do so it's like all they let you do.
Jackson: Yeah. Like I've Maybe that's where the top like n ninety percentile comes in, like top ninetieth percentile of like people with autism, like in what they can possibly make in jobs.
Todd: I don't know. Some of the top earners got aut like Zuck Zuckerberg's got autism. So he's bringing that up like
Jackson: Yeah. You have to I mean, Elon Musk definitely has a little bit.
Thomas: He's the hundred percentile. Yeah, I mean come on.
Todd: Yeah. So they gotta they gotta be bringing that like average up
Thomas: You're telling me that the Zamboni driver in the NHL is ten percent less than Zuckerberg and Elon Musk?
Todd: I don't even know what this category was so poorly written.
Jackson: But it's it's a slippery slope, dude, 'cause it's like, you know, you're either Elon Musk or, you know, you're on a different bus.
Thomas: Fifteen minutes into this first episode, by the way. ⁓ that's awesome. ⁓ man.
Jackson: And we've talked about Zambonis and strip clubs in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Thomas: Mm-hmm. I mean what better, right?
Todd: I mean that's that's pretty hard to do in Tulsa.
Jackson: I mean a good start to me. That's what yeah, that's what that's what I get for researching golf all day. That's that's what my brain goes to. It turns to mush.
Todd: I mean the strippers have to be pretty ugly controls ⁓
Thomas: I tell you what, the the IFL is if you I wish like you guys would see an ECHL game for hockey and then like an IFL game the next day, the crowds are unbelievably different. Like it is so funny that like obviously ⁓ IFL, hundred percent. They go way harder. ECHL's playing like like normal music, but like pop music, you know what I mean? And then like you switch the IFL and it's like third down and one for the other team. Mo Bamba's blaring over the speakers.
Jackson: Who's drunker? Yeah, that's what I imagine. Yeah. Okay.
Thomas: ⁓ like it is exactly what you think like an IFL team.
Jackson: I thought it you were gonna say it's like the like two thousand seven soundtrack for like a WWE game, like hard, heavy metal rock. Okay.
Thomas: I'm sure there's some in there, definitely. No, it's like it's like Mo Bomba, third down and one, like
Todd: We were playing WWE Jackson.
Jackson: I grew up yeah, that's what that's what I used to go play at the neighbor's house. We would just go me and my brother would go there at like seven, eight years old, just play the fucking WWE game.
Thomas: ⁓ I thought were about to say you were actually WWE and it up to like on the trampoline.
Jackson: ⁓ no, I would. Like I would legit like the the cage matches, like being able to jump off the ladders. I would go to
Todd: I don't do that tough though.
Thomas: Hundred percent.
Todd: Yeah, until like someone broke like the four year old kid's arm, like the neighbor that like no one really liked and his arm got broke. He was too young to be hanging around anyways, but like he insisted on playing. And then he like he's the one that jumps off and like breaks his arm.
Jackson: Yeah. Yeah. I was I was that can.
Thomas: Ha ha ha.
Jackson: Yeah. Well it's like you guys ever play like airsoft with the kids in your neighborhood? And you always have that one kid who's just like a little bit too handsy with a gun and you're like, I'm keeping my eye on you when we get past like elementary school.
Thomas: ⁓ yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And then there's always the kid that like you you shoot him and immediately it's like not cool. Like he doesn't want to play anymore. It's like tag. It's like tag you're it. I he doesn't want to be it.
Jackson: Yeah.
Todd: The kids with the best airsoft guns were always overweight. They were always like if you ever had like a gun that was past like the beginner level airsoft gun, you were in the higher percentile for your weight in your in your
Jackson: ⁓ yeah. Always overweight. Yeah. You had you had the you had the Chandler diet where you drank a twelve pack of Mountain Dew in one setting.
Thomas: Dude, what was the name? There was like a
Todd: You were drinking soda, your your mom didn't care about your diet if you had more than one three air.
Thomas: There was like a gun that I remember There was a gun that one of my buddies had. I think it was I think it's this it was think it the North Star. And it was just like an an automatic, like fully the biggest cheat code you could come up with. And I
Jackson: Honey boo boo ass. See, kids aren't doing that these days. Like kids are just watching fucking Bluey on their iPhone and like they're not even going outside and shooting each other anymore. Like we need more of that. People are talking about bring down the shootings. We gotta bring ⁓ back. Get kids outside, dude.
Thomas: Amen. Amen.
Todd: Bring back the shootings.
Jackson: Clip that.
Thomas: Cl yeah, cl put that on socials. That's what that's our first that's our first social media clip. Right there.
Jackson: That's what we're all about. That's what we're all about in here.
Todd: Bring back the shootings. Were the shootings gone? They go I don't feel like they're not. Look they're
Thomas: ⁓ man.
Jackson: I know. Well like
Thomas: I don't no. No, they were not.
Jackson: I think they're dropping, dude. What about what about paintball?
Todd: I went pay balling like twice in my childhood.
Thomas: I like yeah, I was gonna say I dabbled but like I was never
Jackson: You fuck with it or you're like, I'm never going back?
Todd: well we went for our fraternity like a couple of times.
Jackson: Yeah, I never went to that.
Thomas: ⁓ yeah. That was horrid. We just got attacked, Todd and I in the same pledge class. Just fifty to one.
Todd: Yeah. Yeah, I only won as a flood.
Jackson: Jesus.
Todd: ⁓ I wouldn't I wouldn't want it's fun, but it's like it's the same thing where it's like the the fat kids can just like like the paintball bullets like don't hurt them and they do they just like shoot at and they're like really good at it for some reason. 'Cause they play a lot of like cool.
Thomas: That was You weren't there, Jackson?
Jackson: No, I was not there. They can take it. Yeah. It's like in their DNA.
Thomas: They can't move around the arena.
Todd: They know what they're doing. They're not mobile, but they're agile.
Thomas: They do. Yeah, that's a good way to put it. Not mobile but agile.
Jackson: True. Well and that they can just fucking camp. They don't need to go anywhere. Just camp and let the people run and get themselves shot.
Todd: Yeah.
Thomas: Yeah.
Todd: It's nice.
Thomas: That's true. That's a good point. That's a good point.
Jackson: Those thing those things are crazy though, 'cause it's like I remember when I did it like before my parents let me go, they were like, You need to know how it feels, like
Todd: Let you go. It sounds like they gave you up for adoption for my parents.
Jackson: ⁓ yeah. They thought about it.
Thomas: Yeah. ⁓
Todd: What they released me.
Jackson: Nah, they just they just told me to stand point blank and then they just shot me like in the back and I like, Fuck, that hurts, but I kinda like it.
Todd: They shot you with a pit ball again before you left?
Jackson: Yeah, 'cause they were like if you we need to know if you still want to do this or not. Low key goods Yeah. Yeah, I was a little freak about it. I was like, shoot me again.
Thomas: Write a passage.
Todd: You liked it, you little freak.
Thomas: Yeah.
Todd: Yeah.
Thomas: It's a rite of passage.
Jackson: It is. Should we do an actual sport stake?
Thomas: ⁓ Todd I the actual sports take. I was gonna say Todd I No I was no I was gonna say Todd needs like a team for the rest of the NHL playoffs, I feel like. Like if you're gonna start watching, I feel like you need one. Like you can jump on the wagon of like the Avalanche. Like they're sweeping. ⁓ I think so. ⁓ definitely out of the West. Definitely out of the West. Ducks?
Todd: Can we just have one? No.
Jackson: Yeah.
Todd: See ya.
Jackson: Are the are the Aves the favourites?
Todd: I'll go I'll I'll go for the ducks.
Jackson: Okay, the dots are cool.
Todd: Yeah, and I
Thomas: That's our affiliate. I'm I'm rooting for the Ducks as the West too. So we like we have players that ⁓ our goalie this season's like on the taxi squad for the Ducks right now. So he's getting paid an NHL salary, like vet minimum or not vet minimum 'cause he's not a vet, but like rookie minimum or whatever, to basically just sit there and be like an e bug.
Jackson: That's done. They have the dude that has all the crazy goals, right? Like Ziegler or something like that? Ziegris. ⁓ okay. They traded him?
Thomas: Zegris is a flyer. They had they had him. They had him and then they traded. So yeah, last season, I want to say before the beginning of last season, because we ⁓ well actually we've traded with the ducks twice. We drafted this guy, Cutter Gautier, a couple years ago with like a high pick, a hockey name, 100%. He's a good hockey player, but I hate him because he didn't want to play for Philly because we were terrible like when we drafted him.
Jackson: Thick name, hockey name. Mm.
Thomas: So we traded him to the Ducks for one of our defensemen a couple years ago, Jamie Drysdale, who actually has a goal in the Flyers two one game right now at first intermission. And then we traded for Ziegris and we sent them like a v a veteran forward. That's been okay for them and then like a pick. So we've traded twice with the Ducks. Yeah, yeah, he's got a Michigan as a duck. He's nasty. He's got the best. I still hope it's the best ⁓ shootout percentage.
Jackson: Uh-huh. Didn't he do a a he did like a Michigan or something? I feel like I remember seeing that.
Thomas: in like NHL history. It's like it's definitely up there. I don't know if I can be quoted on like top.
Jackson: Is there any team that's like universally hated? Like in the NBA, like if you don't like the Thunder, everyone else hates them. They hate Shea. Like is there a team like that in the NHL?
Thomas: I mean like ⁓ the way that the Thunder are hated is like because they're so good, you know, the last couple of years. I would say that like the Avalanche are probably that. Like
Jackson: Yeah. Did people hate the Panthers? They won back to back or
Thomas: Yeah, yeah, that's a good one too. I was I wasn't thinking about them because they're out of the playoffs this year, but like and they have such ratty players too, like Marshawn's a rat, the Matthew Tichuk's a rat. So it's like those guys, I guess you could make ⁓ hey.
Jackson: Yeah. What about one the l the lightning one? Did people hate that or no?
Thomas: pff ⁓ people hate when you like keep winning cups, you know what I Like the the people that aren't like lightning fans, like that are just hockey fans, like want other people or weather teams to win the cup. But like the Lightning were were sick. Like that was like people were saying, I remember Liam was like ⁓ he was joking, but like Vasilevsky's like wash like in the the game that they just lost in the game seven versus the Canadians. But like you talk about Vasilevsky like when they were winning the cup, like that was prime Andre Vasilevsky. Like that was
Jackson: Yeah. Yeah.
Thomas: Like he was in conversations for like the best goaltender, like every year. Like he was good. So like I liked watching the light.
Jackson: Did y'all see that graphic where it was like the only the only league that hasn't had a repeat winner in the last five years is the NBA? Like that's the last sport I would expect that from. Every other sport has had a repeat winner.
Todd: Last five years.
Thomas: Yeah, that is kind of wild. Huh. I mean I feel like I don't know. I I feel like that like I agree with you. That definitely makes sense, like that it shouldn't be the NBA. Like the NFL, like I feel like there's always like teams have windows where like five year window, you're gonna go to the Super Bowl at least two to three times, probably gonna win at once. But I mean like the Eagles won what twenty tw twenty seventeen and twenty twenty five. So I mean that's an eight year span.
Jackson: Yeah. Yeah. 'Cause like even when you think about the like the Patriots as like a dynasty, they won six Super Bowls, but only one of them came back to back. Like in the NBA, when I think history, I think of dynasties like the Celtics, the Bulls, the Spurs, ⁓ the Heat with LeBron. Like they a lot of those came like back to back. So it's weird it's been like six or whatever years since.
Thomas: Right. What was like the last back to back like NBA champion? It was the Warriors? Yeah, twenty sixteen, twenty seventeen, twenty seventeen, twenty eighteen. Yeah. So it's been what? Basically if this is the twenty five, twenty six season, it's been eight years. Jeez.
Jackson: Warriors Had to meet. Yeah. And this season we could get one unless the Spurs won.
Todd: Yeah, I'll probably find.
Thomas: Yeah, yeah. I think it's a thunder. I mean
Jackson: They're probably just a little bit too young. Like I th I know they beat ⁓ in what, three of four this season or something like that, but it just seems like I don't know, they may have like their welcome like even before the Thunder won the first finals, they got beat by Luca in that ⁓ in that in that conference finals, ⁓ the year that the Mavs played the Celtics.
Thomas: Yeah. Mm-hmm. It's so funny that I feel like that's like the perfect like skeleton for them as well. Like they're gonna lose probably in the Western Conference Finals and then that's like the last time that they're not gonna see at least a shot at the finals. Like they're too young. Wemby's gonna have a year under his belt. It'd be even better for them, honestly, in long term, if they lost in like seven or like something. You know what I mean? Like if they lose in like six, like and they were in every game, like whatever, it'll still help. But like if you you lose in like heartbreaking fashion for a guy like Wemby, like
Jackson: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Thomas: Or they weren't even in the pl were they even in the playoffs last year? And he went and like and he hung out with the monks like all off season. Like imagine like a game seven heartbreaking loss Wemby with the monks. Like that's
Jackson: Okay. Well, 'cause they they were like the biggest jump because their win total was like forty four games and they won sixty two. They went twenty games essentially over their win total this year.
Thomas: Okay. Okay. Yeah, I mean I I can only imagine what that would do for like the Spurs 'cause obviously they're good. Like you said, they they beat the Thunder in the regular season however many times, but it's like in the playoffs, like the Thunder just went all the way. And it's like so I don't I don't know.
Jackson: Yeah. They already have the blueprint, like and like I didn't think they originally had like motivation. Like it seemed like they were kind of cocky, but I think they've kind of now started to feed off everyone hating them and have found like a reason to try again.
Thomas: Mm-hmm. Yeah. I don't know, I feel like two.
Todd: Is Jalen Williams back? Is Jalen Williams back?
Jackson: I don't even know.
Thomas: God, he's like glass. He's made of glass, man. Like he's easily their second option when healthy.
Jackson: But he's like now Yeah. I think like now, like at this point, maybe Chet's past him.
Todd: Is he is he back? Is he back for the like the
Thomas: You think Chet passed him? I don't know. I'm looking up Jay Will.
Todd: See on your quantity.
Jackson: Well Chet may at I get Jalen was hurt most of the year. Like and Chet's not a scorer like that, but his defense is so good.
Thomas: Yeah. ⁓ Jalen Williams is out for game one.
Jackson: I think Chet may make an all MBA team. Like he may sneak onto a third team. Okay.
Thomas: Yeah, it's a week to week basis, it looks like, is the last thing that they reported.
Jackson: And that's the crazy thing, like they don't even need him. Like they had like 'cause they've had ⁓ Wallace step up, they've had obviously AJ Mitchell.
Thomas: Yeah. Yeah, and it's like too, like they were they were buyers at the deadline. You know what I mean? Like I have no doubt that if they didn't have Jared McCain, R.I.P., I hate that we traded him, was like like I if if they didn't have him, like he's dropped twenty five point games. Like whether they were meaningless or not, like that's good scoring off the bench along with like Casey Wallace and AJ Mitchell.
Jackson: Yeah. Yeah. Forgot about that. Yeah. Yeah. Well if you're if you're thinking about it in terms of like a series, which is what you have to do when you're a team that has already won and like you're thinking about your series. Like McCain is a dude that can single handedly get you a game. Like there's gonna be one game, he drops twenty five, thirty points, he hits like six threes, like and that's that's a game right there. That's worth his value alone.
Thomas: Mm. Yeah. I dude was rookie of the year conversation before he got injured last year. And I mean, if he was even D say
Jackson: Yeah. And they got it was like what? ⁓ it was like what, like three second round picks or something stupid?
Thomas: We like for to give into the thunder, I'm pretty sure we got a first.
Jackson: Yeah. I would hope so. I mean he was
Thomas: We got a twenty twenty yeah, we got the Rockets first round pick, this upcoming draft and three second round picks. So I mean like it was a haul. Like we definitely got good value for him, but it's just like I'm thinking about it now, and it's like the Sixers right now, like I I need to look at their like plus minus when they're don't have like say Maxi on the board or on the floor, but it's like their depth is so like bad. Like that campaign, like I mean, if you look up the Sixers roster right now.
Jackson: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Thomas: For the playoffs. I mean, you're talking about the guards they have, VJ, obviously, Quentin Grimes, phenomenal depth piece, of course.
Jackson: Yeah. Grimes was big, ⁓ Grimes was big in two or one of the games and
Thomas: Yeah. ⁓ technically Ubre's a guard. I don't agree with that. He's a forward. ⁓ Maxie, obviously goat. ⁓ Tyrese Martin. I don't even know who that is. He's a guard. And then Kyle Lowry. So really your depth piece is Quentin Grimes. You have Maxie, Edgecombe, and Grimes, and the three of them are all playing at some point. Two of the three are playing at some point. So it's like, ⁓ what can you do with that? You know what I mean? And it's like if you had Jaron McCain, you could run.
Jackson: Yeah. Jesus. Yeah.
Thomas: Maxie, Edgecombe, Grimes and McCain, and it would work.
Jackson: Yeah. Dude, if you all had like one more older dude, you would be like the fucking expendables. Like you have Paul George, Andre Drummond, Kelly Ubre. Like you got a shit ton of like journeymen like ⁓ and guys that haven't does Drummond have a ring?
Thomas: Mm no.
Jackson: Did he sneak on the back end of like that Lakers bubble roster or something or is he without
Thomas: Ooh. He does not. He does not have a a rank.
Todd: I'm gonna confidently say no.
Jackson: Okay. Dude, remember he when he was like a lock to get like he was always like the top rebounder for like three straight years and now he's like fucking banging threes?
Thomas: Bro, he's never won a playoff series.
Todd: Banging threes. He's death. He's never on a walk.
Jackson: ⁓ what yeah.
Thomas: He is. Hey, him and Kelly Ubre Junior have had their best three point percentage this season. Both of ⁓
Todd: Did you say you never win the playoff series? Drum?
Jackson: Me and Andre Drummond.
Thomas: He before before now he isn't Andre Drummond I mean Google AI, but that's what they said he'd never won a playoff series.
Jackson: That's
Todd: Well he's on the Pistons for a while and they sucked. I mean he's on the bulls.
Jackson: Well think I'm thinking of the teams he was on.
Thomas: Yeah, I mean like if you look at his career, like what teams was he even on?
Jackson: Yeah. That's the team I was thinking of. The fucking Bulls.
Todd: Yeah, use it.
Thomas: Yeah, like ⁓ it just not
Todd: He was good on the wheels. I mean
Thomas: He was selected to the Pistons. He played with the Pistons for eight years. Franchise Cornerstone, two-time All-Star, NBA third team in 15-16. Then he played for the from 2020 to 2024. He played for the Cavs, the Lakers, the Nets, and the Bulls. And he went from a starting center to a backup player. And then he's been with the Sixers from 21 to 22. And then did he go back to Chicago? I don't know where he went.
Jackson: I the bulls Okay. Yeah.
Todd: I don't know, the Andre Drummond Career Breakdown episode one is cracking me.
Jackson: As yeah. The fifth the fifteen minute mark is Zamboni's, the thirty minute mark is fucking Andre Drummond.
Thomas: Ha ha ha.
Todd: Andrew Drummond's career.
Thomas: Andre Drummond Career Breakdown.
Jackson: How's the future of the Bulls looking, Todd? You you feeling giddy about it?
Todd: I bleak, man. It's never gonna be good. We we genuinely have just like the worst organization. We just hired a new some sort of executive today. I I don't no one it doesn't matter. Like it no one cares. ⁓
Jackson: Yeah.
Todd: But what? Yeah, he's he's going he's been going nuts. I mean, we traded for guards. We traded like Kobe White like went off for the Hornet.
Jackson: I know, like what like
Thomas: How'd you feel about Io dropping forty?
Jackson: ⁓ geez, yeah.
Thomas: Ha
Jackson: They gave Yeah, they just gave Iowa away to the Timberwolves And y'all gave us Kobe White, who was yeah.
Todd: My favorite player of all time. Like
Thomas: Yeah. ⁓ did he was Io traded to the Charlotte?
Jackson: Yeah. He he became like our si he became like our sixth man. He was dropping like fifteen, sixteen a game. He was he was big in the first play in game. We lost the second one, but he dropped ⁓ Fire.
Todd: No.
Thomas: I didn't even know that.
Todd: Well you won't.
Thomas: There's no way.
Todd: Those are.
Thomas: Okay, no, that's a fair jersey. I thought you were about to put an IO Bulls jersey. Kobe White's valid.
Jackson: ⁓ let me get a let me find if I have a crazy jersey.
Todd: I have two toilet.
Thomas: I have a Bryson Stott Phillies jersey, like known average second baseman Bryson Stott. But other than that, I mean I have Ziegris. I have a powder blue Schwarbaum. ⁓ I have this ⁓ my Italian soccer team. This one. You ever heard of Como? This is tough. This is they're a team in in Serie A that's like I think like sixth in the table, fourth in the table. They're pretty good.
Jackson: Future money.
Todd: No, make karma.
Jackson: Here's a good one. Jar Jared Stidum Patriots. Jared fuck I thought he was gonna be the future of the Patriots after Brady left. So I was rocking the Jared S I bought that like I guess the first season after Brady left. We 'cause it was the Cam Newton season, Stidham was the backup, and I was like, dude, I'm gonna get in on the Stidum guy early. And ⁓ then little did I know we'd be playing against him in the AFC fucking ⁓ yeah.
Thomas: ⁓ yeah, that's the best one you got.
Todd: Yeah, I'm sure.
Thomas: Did you buy that? Like when did you buy that? That's nuts. Yeah. That's crazy.
Jackson: I don't know why I wanted to call it the conference finals. My mind's basketball.
Thomas: Basketball, yeah, yeah.
Jackson: AFC champ.
Thomas: Yeah. That's so funny. I actually even I've like remember you wearing that jersey or bringing that up when that game was going on, the the Broncos Pats AFC Championship.
Jackson: There's it was the one time I got to ever wear it. I still like my I can't find I still like my Antonio Brown Patriots jersey. That's my that's my go to from the one game you played.
Thomas: The best time. That's a good one. That's a good one. Yeah. I forgot that he only played one.
Todd: Jackson, if you're Mike Drable, is it like are you choosing Roussini? Is that like
Jackson: I that's at this point everything's out in the open. Like I saw the pictures of his other wife in the airport. Like, and did you see ⁓ my god, did you see it was like him but he bought her like a blue sweater? Like it was like Mike Frable buys apology gift and it was just a blue what?
Todd: ⁓ what ⁓ Yeah. And it was like the one Roussini interviewed him in. And it was like the one Russini interviewed him in.
Thomas: Yeah, yeah.
Jackson: ⁓ yeah, exac ⁓ yeah.
Thomas: Yeah, like it wasn't even like for his actual wife. Like they were they people thought it was an apology gift. The one you're wearing right now.
Todd: The one with the one you're wearing right now?
Jackson: Do you think they cosplay? Do you think he asks her to like dress up like with like a reporter mic and stuff, his wife?
Todd: It's possible.
Thomas: ⁓ man. Now that's a deep dive. That's a deep dive. We want l we've gone five minutes, not even. It's from Andre Drummond career line to foreplay in Mike Brabel's bedroom.
Jackson: Vrabel, this is perfect. I haven't I I I haven't had a good chance to talk about my boy Vrabel. Like honestly, like
Thomas: Dude, just go just go for a little rant. Tell me about your thoughts in in the future and
Todd: Are you defending his innocence?
Jackson: I mean, I think it let's be real, I think the team is fucked, bro. Like, I think I think ⁓ 'cause it's like Vrabel built up this culture of like family and like team and togetherness, and then it's like you're you know, you're cheating on your wife with the fucking reporter. ⁓ all the all the teammates were probably like, damn, like this is the seventh time he's interviewed by Diana Roussini this month. Like they're fucking getting some one on one, she's getting some good content.
Todd: That is not a good sign when your coach shoots on his way.
Thomas: Seriously?
Todd: Insider.
Thomas: I think my thing is like if like the way that it happened, at least like in the media, right? Who knows what they said like in the locker room or anything like that is like the original thing came out and what was like the first thing? It was like those pictures of them like in a pool or whatever, right? Like holding hands or something. And it's like he had a meeting like with them with the media, said he was like working through stuff or whatever. Right. And then he had that meeting. And then I feel like right after he had that meeting, like the next day, maybe, like
Jackson: Yeah. Yeah. They denied it first.
Thomas: those pictures from the club came out from like six years ago. So I'm thinking that like maybe he had like the players meeting, then he had the media meeting. Like I wonder if he mentioned like I wonder if he was like it was just this once to the players and then like the next day it was like like he lied. 'Cause if I think if he lied, then like he completely lost the locker room. Like already, like you mentioned.
Jackson: Yeah. Yeah. I know. Yeah. Well dude, and it was I mean, it was b he missed day three of the fucking draft to do marriage counseling. Like he left the draft early, the head coach of the football team.
Thomas: Yeah. Yeah.
Todd: Was it w why did he like admit that? Like what was that? It's like that's just your admitting to cheating and then he goes back and then like p pleads his innocence, which makes no sense.
Jackson: I don't that wasn't necessary. Yeah, I I Well, and then it was crazy too, cause there was like a ⁓ they had like a meeting with the season ticket holders like a couple days after the draft, and he got a round of applause, like a standing round of applause and like cause they did the meeting up in like the Patriots like suites or something. But the Patriots and their head coaches, this feels eerily similar because it feels like I just went through this with like Belichick and Jordan Hudson. Like I've I've heard a lot about my former and present
Todd: Like no way you can do it. They don't care.
Jackson: Patriots coaches like in their spouses or their young wives.
Todd: Yeah, I the the Hudson one is
Thomas: ⁓ I'll say I feel like a lot of the things like you're talking about like they gave him like a a round of applause and like looking at like it on like my basis and like my team, ⁓ our head coaches for football, it's Marvin Jones. He played for the Jets, he was like a first round draft pick, College Football Hall of Fame out of Florida State. And then our ⁓ hockey coach is ⁓ We just call him Murray. It's Robert Murray. But like he played in the AHL like a thousand games in the league right below the NHL, like the farm system. So he's pretty well known in like the hockey world, I should say, is like once you like dive into the hockey. And it's like I feel like some and more so with our players even, like too. So it kind of could like see the same thing. Like the season ticket holders and the fans, we always do football, it's after every game. We have like a a signature session on the field. People love that, dude. Like I
Jackson: Yeah.
Thomas: Like one of the players works at the gym that I go to. So it's like him and I are cool. But it's like when he's out there signing autographs, like that's a professional athlete to like these people. You know what I mean? So it's like they see Mike Vrabel, even more so because it's Mike Vrabel, former player, former really good player, obviously. Yeah. Like they see him and it's like yeah, but like do they look at that? You know what I mean? Like I'm not the season ticket holders like, I'm in a room with Mike Vrabel, the former Patriot and Super Bowl winning
Jackson: Yeah. Yeah. Former Super Bowl winner. Yeah.
Todd: Cheater.
Jackson: Current unit. Yeah.
Thomas: Linebacker, you know?
Jackson: Yeah, it's true. I mean it's gonna fall it's gonna follow him for the rest of his career. Like I think I think it'll be easier. It's hard now 'cause the team isn't like none of the teams are together. So it's like happening and all the players are kind of reacting on their own. Like and then they're gonna have to come back and there's gonna be a massive elephant in the room, like when they're doing like OTAs and like summer walkthroughs. I think like, I don't know, someone eventually someone's gonna make a joke about it, like
Thomas: Yeah.
Jackson: I g but I guess they're not going on double dates with Drake May and ⁓ and his wife. I guess that's can't
Thomas: No. Did you see ⁓ Cooper DeGene's dating the Dallas Cowboys cheerleader?
Todd: Drake made cheating too. I thought Mega
Jackson: That was fake. That was fake news.
Thomas: Ha ha ha.
Jackson: That was like some Facebook shit.
Thomas: Maybe, maybe.
Todd: Facebook has some of the good stuff.
Jackson: I guess maybe I wouldn't it is an organization of cheating. I'll take a joke. I mean, it's not like we haven't had our scandals in the past of cheating.
Thomas: Yeah. ⁓ Like I said, I feel like it's there's borderline, like he could have lost the locker room, especially if he like lied about it. But you made a good point, like it's gonna stay around. Like no one's just gonna sweep it under the rug.
Jackson: I it's not like it's well, it's not like Kraft is gonna fire him either. It's not like Kraft hasn't had his own shit, so
Thomas: Yeah. Right, right.
Todd: Patriots love to bone, man. They love to bone.
Jackson: Yeah. That's one thing you can't say about our team is that they do not they or can say. They like to have sex. That's that's Patriots and a national. Yeah. And I guess that's what I guess that's what you want at that from ⁓
Thomas: No
Todd: Yeah.
Thomas: Yeah. It's the simplest way to put it.
Todd: Did Stefan Diggs joined the Patriots and immediately impregnated Party B like within like a week.
Thomas: That's a good point. Nobody talks about that. The timing on that.
Jackson: Like the bulls aren't having sex, they're not having fun.
Todd: Something's going on.
Thomas: No, no. The Bulls are just playing playing basketball.
Todd: No, obviously not. No they don't even women don't even look their way.
Jackson: Yeah. No the the
Thomas: Nobody wants to see ⁓ yeah, I was gonna say Josh Giddy, man. I don't know about everyone
Todd: Unless you're Josh Gideon, you're in a in a club.
Jackson: Yeah.
Todd: No, frigidity. It's always free.
Jackson: Josh I'll I'll hold my tongue on Josh. We'll s we'll save that for like episode five.
Thomas: Anthony Simons. Nobody wants a nobody wants a bite of Anthony Simus. Episode five. Just Jackson by himself ranting for an hour about Josh Kidding.
Todd: Easy is
Jackson: We'll get we'll go into the Josh Getty files. Yeah. Josh Getty did nothing wrong.
Todd: Understand my boy.
Thomas: Yeah. Well, Jackson, why don't you ⁓ green readings over here, dude? Kind of the social media type of thing. Why don't you ⁓ talk about it maybe truest a little bit and I know you're kinda bent into it.
Jackson: ⁓ yeah. So yeah. ⁓ big time in golf coming up. If you're not watching golf, what the fuck are you doing? ⁓ golf golf's best that best thing out there. And ⁓ if you, you know, like to responsibly wager some coin, I mean it just makes it even better. But ⁓ yeah, no, big big tournaments coming up, big time of the year. ⁓ PGA scheduling is kind of dumb, like the way I I may I recently made a video of it. ⁓ about it. Like they're trying to do all these signature events, like where it's like an elevated event from just like something normal, but it's not a major. ⁓ but the scheduling right before a major, they put two straight signature events. So I kind of described it on my video as like if the NBA was like, all right, we're gonna do the NBA Cup. We're gonna do this elevated thing that's supposed to draw on all this views, but we're gonna do the NBA Cup in the two weeks leading into the playoffs. Like it's just It would be if like no one would play in it. If they put the NBA Cup right before, like we have NBA players, you know, like Shea or whatever is sitting the final three games because you're trying to prepare for the postseason. It's a more important thing. So like you have a signature event this week and like Scotty Scheffler's not even playing because he's trying to play for the major next week. So that's not very signature. ⁓ true is this week though, hometown event. Shout out Charlotte. ⁓ I'll be there on Friday. Should be a good time. ⁓ Maybe have some cut waters and say inappropriate things to the golfers.
Thomas: Kyle Waters. My thing and you mentioned it kinda like in one of the group chats that we have is like what how many well, two prong question. How many events has Rory done? And then you said it's four. And then it's been and then it's been is every single signature event have had either not Scotty or Rory? Is that what you were saying?
Todd: Yeah.
Jackson: He's he's played four golf tournaments this entire year. Yeah. It's been ⁓ once this one takes place this week, it'll be four straight events where you don't have both of the top two players playing. And like golf is an individual sport, like you wanna see the top people duking it out. That kind of like is what draws new eyes in. So it's like when you don't have that, like and also he's just like I'm trying to think of like it's like a spokes it's like a spokesperson. Like I feel like in ways like, you know, like LeBron is a spokesperson for the NBA, like What he sa his opinion holds weight when it's something about the actual league. Like Rory has that kind of pull with the PGA, yet like he sets a bad example by like not playing. And then also, I mean, we're just talking to all the guys with
Todd: they even resting for? Like w it's it's four rounds of golf or
Jackson: It's golf. Like like dude, like you're getting to go play a nice ass course. I don't understand it.
Todd: These guys are talking man.
Thomas: My thing too is like Yeah, I was gonna say that like when it came to the Masters specifically, like there was pr there was like haters and lovers for like Rory skipping a couple events and like playing the Masters of course. But it's like here and like he the rec do that whatever. We could talk about that for however long alone. But it's like now you're looking at it, you're not skipping signature events to prepare for the masters. And like you're not you're not you're just not playing golf. Like you're just not playing in a tournament because you don't want to play in this one.
Jackson: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Thomas: Because the next one is bigger. But it's like at what point can you can you even space it out so like people don't do that? And like if what's stopping like a like a a Jordan Spieth or like a like a Gary Woodland from like doing the same thing? Like we're talking about it because it's world number one and world number two, but like is Cameron Young doing that? He's world number three, isn't he?
Jackson: Yeah. What I'm saying. Yeah. Well, it's like Cameron Young, normally you see like if a golfer wins, that's why I respect Cameron Young. Like what a what a patriot, dude. Like, dude just kind of shuts up, plays his golf and and wins. But like, aside from that, like normally you always see like if a golfer wins, they'll withdraw the next week. Like Rory did that when he won the Masters. He was scheduled to play the next tournament, he withdrew. You got your money, you take a week off. Like Cam Young was scheduled to play in this event one last week and is still playing. So it's like But the thing, like to your point about Rory, like it just kind of sets that example. Like I think there's some in the video same video I was talking about earlier, like there's similarities you can take from the PGA to like NBA and like load management. Like, and it just hurts the fans. Like you may have like it may be overall better for the players. Like you gotta sit guys. And I get a 41 year old dude like LeBron. Like, I get it. Like, okay, he's gonna take some nights off, but like think about the paying fan that's going there to see. the event or trying to watch it on TV and it's like, you know, it may be load managing for the players, but like for the fan, like that they're paying to see the top talent and they're not doing it. ⁓ but no, you can if Rory's doing it, then ⁓ what's to say people like you said, Jordan Speith or Gary Woodland don't follow his example. Like if he shows I can skip these tournaments and then still win the Masters, like that's like, ⁓ shit, all right, I can skip all this and still win.
Thomas: Right. Yeah. That's kind of my thing too, is like it I don't know what it'll do like for the sport, you know what I mean? And I don't know if it's as simple as somehow stretching it out and not doing two signature events back to back with a a a major coming up. Like I don't know if that's a thing that they can do or like how it would you know
Jackson: Yeah. Is I think it's just a requirement for all leagues to just naturally be fucking stupid. Like it's i I think it's just every s every sports commissioner has like a little bit of dumbness to them.
Thomas: Ha Yeah. I think too, with like let to continue off with that point, something that I personally think is dumb and I feel like Todd, you're kind of the most like basketball esque out of the three of us. What's your opinion on like the March Madness expansion and like how that looks? 'Cause I I feel like it's just like I I don't know, maybe Dom said it, but it's like, ⁓ Duke's gonna play like Belmont in the first round and like it's just not even like worth it. Like they're gonna play subs, you know what I mean? Like I know the proper way to go about that, I guess.
Jackson: ⁓ yeah.
Todd: The college basketball setup right now is so beyond cooked. Like, there's players staying in college so they don't have to go to the league, like to be like a shitty second round draft pick and they'll they'll stay in college. So that's like draft picks are now becoming worth less in the second second round and a hundred twenty would it be a hundred and twenty eight teams?
Thomas: Yeah.
Jackson: Yeah.
Thomas: Yeah I think seventy six, yeah.
Jackson: I think it's seventy six. Well dude, and isn't isn't there something where it's like there's sixty draft spots in the NBA draft and like seventy one players submitted their name or something?
Thomas: Yeah, and that's like a league low, like since the first time since like twenty fifteen or something like that. Like Yeah. But it's like that's so I I think that that's like the worst situation in sports, like Todd said. Like that is easily the worst like college situation. And I mean like you really can't compare it to like I don't know, like I guess college football, but even then, like NAL is still there. But when players are good enough, they're still going. Like
Jackson: Yeah. And it's dropped it's dropped every year.
Todd: But I submit it. Yeah, I'm true.
Thomas: I can guarantee you Jeremiah Smith is going to the NFL draft next season because he's good enough. And it's maybe maybe college basketball is like top heavy where a guy like Boozer, like a yeah, like a guy like Boozer's going. Yeah.
Jackson: Yeah. Yeah. I think it's more of a basketball thing, yeah. I think it's more of a basketball problem than a football one, at least draft wise.
Todd: Did y'all did y'all see Angel Reese's return to Chicago?
Thomas: No. I knew she was traded to the dream. I didn't did she play ⁓ give me the stat line. Do you have the stat line? Hold on, let me pull it up. Let me pull it up. Let me pull it up.
Jackson: stink it up. ⁓ wait, let me let me try and predict the stat line. I'm thinking four points
Todd: Big A reads. ⁓
Jackson: ⁓ I'm thinking like six points, maybe two of ten shooting. She probably got her boards though. Maybe she got ten boards.
Todd: What was the training from there?
Thomas: She played thirteen minutes. It was a preseason game. She did they won eighty seven seventy eight. In thirteen minutes, she had eight points, seven rebounds, three steals, and two assists. Yeah. It's pretty good. Yeah. ⁓
Jackson: ⁓ ⁓ Holy shit. Pop off, Angel. Well, her boyfriend ⁓ is getting dunked on or what or is that the other one? Something Jonathan Isaac or I don't know.
Todd: ⁓ the big drop.
Thomas: No, no, ⁓ Angel Reese is dating Wendell Carter Junior on the Magic.
Todd: Isaac Manga, I think it was.
Jackson: I don't think Angel Reese is dating Isaac Bog. Yeah, a Dembona.
Todd: Mm-hmm.
Thomas: It's it's Wend I just said the answer, dude. It's Wendell Carter Jr. Yeah.
Jackson: ⁓ That guy's s ⁓ that's kind of mid. Like I feel like I feel like she needs to get someone like a little bit higher up. Like it's gotta at least be like a starter.
Thomas: N what look at what?
Todd: Both former Chicago players. Does he not?
Thomas: Yeah, she needs to get with ⁓ now that she's in Atlanta, it's gotta be like a a ⁓ a nyeka okon wo. That'd be a good a good duo. Yeah. No, whoa, whoa, whoa, drumming's a sixer, man. Come on now. Him and his three point shooting.
Jackson: Yeah. Clint Capella? Andre Drummond. Andre Drummond would probably Yeah. Andre Drummond would.
Todd: For Elane. Corey Lane's still in jail?
Jackson: Dude, free Tory lanes. Her asked didn't her ass did not get shot in the foot, bro. That's such some hullabaloo.
Todd: Is she is he is she still locked up?
Thomas: I didn't even know that.
Todd: Mm-hmm. Really did.
Jackson: She got he like shot her at the pool, supposedly, like with Kylie Jenner there too, and he just like fucking went ham on her foot.
Todd: And then Clay picked that up.
Jackson: Yeah. And then you put that back down too.
Todd: Exercise.
Thomas: Hey, we didn't know Clay before Megan the Stallion, fellas. Never forget that. No. ⁓
Jackson: Did you see the video he posted the day after? Everyone's like dragging him online and he's on his yacht and he's like, I'm so back, baby, and he's like listening to music. Hold up, I gotta find I gotta find that video.
Thomas: Ha ha. That's so funny.
Todd: Play is
Jackson: Clay got the city boys up right before the summer.
Todd: I could see Clay being a douchebag though. That guy that guy's always been wrong. He had the ring.
Thomas: ⁓ hundred percent. Dude the Splash Brothers the Splash Brothers nickname got to
Jackson: He's just he's just vibing on his jet ski. This is the day after.
Thomas: That is wild.
Todd: Well so.
Thomas: That's insane. ⁓ I wanted to think about it. I I saw like a a post that we've gotten like so we I should probably preface the South Carolina is where we all went to college. So like we're big game cocks people, you know, love the cocks, show cocks. Yeah, amen. Amen. ⁓ our recruiting's done pretty well. And I I feel like yeah, I feel like we've got a couple decent, like like not transfer portal, like specifically like late recruits.
Todd: I mean sometimes you have to. These are different ⁓
Jackson: Yeah, we like cocks.
Todd: ⁓ god. For football.
Thomas: recently, like on ⁓ what's that Instagram account? Hayes Fossett.
Jackson: Yeah.
Todd: Is Dylan Stewart's on our two?
Jackson: Yeah. It's always a good feeling when you refresh your Instagram page and there's like a haze faucet and it's actually like, ⁓ shoot, he's going to South Carolina.
Thomas: Yeah. Exactly. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's what I always see is like good like good vibes, good but I mean like
Jackson: That's how I learn about literally any recruit. Like it's not on like max preps or anything like that or like on three. It's just all Hayes Fawcett Instagram posts.
Thomas: Yeah. Hayes Fawcett.
Todd: Wasn't he a part of On Thury? I thought it was one thing.
Jackson: Probably was.
Thomas: I think he is, was, now is
Jackson: Well those websites are like, dude, pay fucking five hundred dollars a month for us and we'll just talk to you about the reports and the recruits that like you learn about from like what's his n J D Pickle? What the Who's that dude with The blonde hair, bruh? What the fuck's that guy's name?
Thomas: That I could find on Instagram. Jenny Pickle? Who's that?
Todd: Sounds dramatic. This Jamie Cucumber.
Thomas: JD Pickle. Yeah, duh, dude. ⁓ while you're looking that up, ⁓ JD you got it?
Jackson: Jamie Cucumber. ⁓ J D Yeah, J this this dude right here, J D Pickle.
Todd: Hell not.
Thomas: JD? I've never seen him before in my life. Wait, show me maybe not. Maybe not. Maybe I've seen him.
Jackson: What?
Todd: I want to.
Thomas: Okay, no, yeah, yeah, yeah. I saw him like before he was with on three, I think. Like I feel like that's a recent development for him.
Jackson: ⁓ yeah, I think he still is. Shout out on dude, they gotta work so like being in sports journalism, they gotta work so fucking hard. There's no like research you have to like constantly spend more than like high school recruits. There's like no information out there. You're having to like go off of nothing and write articles about them, and then they're always moving on. Once you get through one dude, there's another one coming in. Like that's fucking tireless work.
Thomas: Yeah. And you got they're not even like they're broken up into like regions too. Like it's not like your University of Alabama and everybody that's Alabama like you're doing. Like, no, it's like you have the entire southeast region or whatever, which is like obviously SEC.
Jackson: Yeah. Yeah. And it's like you have to be the You have to be like the Adam Schefter of f of Bum Fuck Alabama just to get a recruit just to get a story on a three star recruit that may fucking see third team snaps. Like it's it's a lot of work for like you're doing like I I don't know, I could never do like that type. Maybe that's why I'm trying to get into golf, bro. It's like, you know, I'm just covering dudes are teeing it up. Yeah, what's ⁓ what's good with the wife and kids at home? Like you want to go play four rounds of golf. Like
Thomas: Exactly. Exactly. Yeah.
Jackson: And I guess well, even like just pro sports in general, like that's like a sneaky underrated part about it if you're covering it, like 'cause it's all just it's the same pool of guys. The pool isn't changing every year. And there's not a hundred fucking whatever many teams like there are in college sports.
Thomas: Yeah. That's what's so crazy about like professional sports too is like I look at if I'm not looking at like how I have like some of the guys that have been around with the the teams that I work for, like you look at the Thunder Reporter, like that's a perfect example of like what you just said. Like he's been around, the players have been around, like they see him not just at every home game or every away game, but like every single day probably. So it's like you build that relationship and it's like it it's just it's interesting to see that like
Jackson: Yeah.
Thomas: If you were to do that on a broader scale in college football, because you're probably not I'm the recruiting guy for Louisiana State University. Like I that's not it. You're you're the recruiting guy for the entire southeast.
Jackson: Yeah. Yeah. And it's like they're also just not a adults. You're dealing with college kids then. It's like they don't give a fuck about you. Like at least professionals, you know, they're seasoned a little bit. Like, you know, they care about your time a little bit. They may get to know your name. Like if you're a college kid, like you got a party to go to after you've practiced three times and on a Friday night. They could give less of a fuck about a some reporter, you know, from the Tuscaloosa Times that has to get their report out.
Thomas: Exactly. Right. Right. I get it. I mean, I'm curious to see that like we talked about the college like basketball expansion. I wonder if like I feel like ever since they expanded the foot college football playoff, they've talked about doing it again. And like that goes back to what you were saying, like about the PGA and like about golf is like when you're part of an organization like that, like something has to be stupid is what it feels like as like a a viewer. It's like why
Jackson: Yeah. Yeah.
Todd: Do you think it's because it's not like for Bernard Twinner like always say expand? They thought that meant like just like expand all the college football playoffs. ⁓
Jackson: Well it's all just goes back to money.
Thomas: Like yeah, we have to do it now. I mean, X is saying it. Elon Musk. Elon Musk that's in the a hundred percentile of salaries for autistic people, while the ninetieth percentile is the NHL Zamboni drivers. Like that we're talking about that guy.
Todd: The the the right is one of the
Jackson: Pretty much. Well, it's like since the college football playoff has expanded, do you remember any of like the opening round games? No. I can remember like once it gets to four teams, which is what the playoffs originally were. Like I remember the national championship or like the rat the semifinals, but like I don't remember anything about Penn State versus Boise State other than the fact that Boise got waxed.
Thomas: No. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And I you're I'm I'm wearing full Penn State gear. That's my college football team outside of South Carolina and I I can't I couldn't tell you.
Todd: Mm, it's the same day as the cheese.
Jackson: We love schools with ⁓ with former allegations, I guess, dude.
Thomas: True, we do. That's usually how it is. That's why I went to South Carolina. I had to stick with it. Grew up Penn State fan, South Carolina.
Jackson: Yeah.
Todd: What allegations does South Carolina?
Jackson: Well, have you seen the shit recently with like apparently Beamer cheated back in twenty two or whatever? Like he was getting signals from Connor Stallions and that's how we beat Tennessee and Clemson. Yeah. I've seen that recently, like, all over Twitter, like Beamer was collabing with fucking Connor Stallions to get signals. It's like I I don't know about him.
Todd: The Tennessee game that we won by thirty.
Thomas: Yeah, they're like Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. They brought that up after like what three years? Was it twenty twenty two that that happened?
Jackson: Yeah. Like dude, like we we hung sixty three or whatever on Tennessee and like Hendon Hooker ruptured his ⁓ his Achilles.
Todd: We did run out of fire. The Gilly I think was he's never he hasn't been seen again.
Thomas: I don't I don't know how many how many points you can get back from signs dealing. Isn't he? Where is he? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Jackson: No. He was on the Lions. He was on the Lions is where he got drafted. I don't even know if dude ever took a preseason snap. Like I don't think I've ever seen him. He should be in the UFL. Tell yeah. You'd probably respond, dude.
Todd: Poor guy. What's that on the pot? Friend of the pot.
Thomas: He's on the he's with the Tennessee Titans. Bro, ⁓ my God. We he let's get him on the pod for sure. Lions twenty three to twenty-five. Also the Panthers in twenty twenty-five. Also the Jets in twenty twenty five.
Jackson: That's such a Panthers pickup. I mean, tell me tell me a guy like Hinden Hooker would not be like a UFL legend. Maybe arena football. Maybe you you could try and get him on your team.
Thomas: Maybe I should reach out, yeah. I was thinking, ⁓ before Pabia signed that deal with the Ravens, we were talking in the office to to snag him.
Jackson: We could spend fucking ten minutes on Pavia dude. Little short king. It's crazy like Todd, you're like a ⁓ yeah, Todd, you're like a foot taller than us.
Thomas: ⁓ Yeah. Have you seen the picture of him at Ravens minicamp or Ravens rookie camp?
Todd: You get that deal, dude. I thought it wasn't
Thomas: Easily.
Todd: Yeah, how tall do you think he is? Five, nine?
Thomas: Five ⁓ dude, have you seen the most recent Ravens minicamp picture of Diego Pavia, Todd?
Jackson: Dude. I think he's like five seven, bro. I think he's like Danny Woodhead size.
Todd: I saw the one where he's like he's taking a snap. Where he's taking a snap from the guy.
Thomas: I mean he is yeah, that is that's like a five seven build.
Jackson: Yeah, that's the one I saw too. Well, it doesn't help too that like he's also short and then dumber than a box of rocks. Like that doesn't really help go far either.
Thomas: You're telling me that that's six foot? That's not six foot.
Jackson: Didn't
Todd: I thought he claims five ten.
Thomas: No, remember the Heisman, it went from Heisman ceremony, he said six foot, and then like the other three guys were like all actually six foot. And then he was like a couple inches shorter. So then he's like, ⁓ I'm five ten. That's not even five ten.
Jackson: I mean
Todd: Dude, he needs to get the clavicular hide insoles in his shoes.
Thomas: Maybe. That could be it. That could be the play. I wonder if you could put those in cleats.
Jackson: The killer.
Todd: Why realistically, why is a QB if you're shorter like Kyler or something, do you not wear those? Like do you think it affects your speed that much or
Jackson: It's true. Like you could just go on skills.
Thomas: I mean, God, Kyler needs like four inch soles. You're talking about huge cleats.
Todd: I guess you should be like a little more flat footed.
Jackson: I mean, if you put ⁓ on stilts like they're at like the carnival, as long as like you get the throw off fast enough, like that could work.
Todd: Chat, do PDs need a looks max in order to succeed in the NFL?
Thomas: Y yeah, Kyler Murray would have to become a pocket passer.
Jackson: I think that's what Pavia should switch to. He should just go into looks maxing. And I think he would He a hun like tell me he would not have like a ⁓ like a Walmart Johnny Manzel podcast. Like he would be able to get some pool, he would get views.
Todd: I think yeah, start with bone smashing.
Thomas: That could be it. Yeah. Yeah, ⁓ I mean he already gets views on like whatever podcast he's on just talking about
Todd: You could just go to Clavicular's Club in Miami and just get paid for appearance.
Jackson: Yeah. People watch the Hot Tua podcast. People, not me. Yeah. Who's looks maxing? Yeah.
Thomas: Yeah.
Todd: I mean Tom Brady, Tom Brady was looks maxing. He was he was Tom Brady. Like he was he he he came to the league butt ugly. He he came out looking like a stud, seven ranks.
Thomas: They did. Do they still? Yeah.
Jackson: Dude, I know. I can't even imagine, dude, because he's now in the organization with Fernando Mendoza. Think about how corny the conversations are gonna be between Brady and Mendoza. I can't think of something cornier.
Todd: Mendoza's not good.
Jackson: He's gonna suck. Can we get it that's ⁓ that's our first episode take, is that he's gonna be ass.
Todd: Yeah, and
Thomas: I was just gonna say we should get like a couple hot takes to like wrap it up. I I think that's a good one. ⁓ I think I think Ducks are going to the Western Conference Finals. I guess that's not really a hot take. Vegas is better than them. Arbut would like it if we said the Ducks went to the Stanley Cup finals. He would like that. But
Jackson: Let's say Let's see. Yeah, he would like that. ⁓ my hot take is ⁓ is that the Phillies are gonna win the East. Or not the Phillies, ⁓ the seventy Sixers, not the Phillies. Seven the Seventy Sixers are winning the East. I think they go dude, I think they go all the way. Like I think they can beat the Knicks.
Thomas: That's a good one. That's a good one. Hey, the Phillies there's like a that's a scorching hot take.
Todd: No.
Thomas: Realistic I agree, but that like I agree that we can we can beat the Knicks, but like realistically it's like what's the next it's calves pistons, right? So you would think pistons. Yeah, but so did like the Cavs also just play with their food with the Raptors. Like the Raptors were good, but like I don't know.
Todd: Right now.
Jackson: Yeah. I mean the pistons almost lost to the magic, bro. That's my logic.
Todd: Yeah.
Jackson: No. Like I just can't picture the Cavs like Donovan Mitchell playing a finals game. Like Donovan Mitchell is a regular season merchant.
Thomas: Yeah. Todd, are you claiming the Fernando Mendoza take as your hot take?
Todd: ⁓ I don't even think that's a hot take. Like everyone thinks it sucks.
Jackson: Yeah. It's honestly it would be like more of a hot take now to say he's gonna be good at this point.
Todd: Yeah, it's just like the Raiders are so awful.
Thomas: Yeah. I think that the known North Dakota State draft pick for the Eagles, Cole Payton, is gonna have a better NFL career than Fernando Mendoza.
Jackson: True. Shout out Cole Payton. I definitely know him.
Thomas: Last last North Dakota State quarterback we picked was Carson Wentz, who was an MVP before he tore his ACL the year that we won Super Bowl.
Jackson: Carson dude, I mean, I don't like the Eagles, but prime Carson Wentz was cool.
Thomas: Where's he now?
Todd: I'll say this, I'll say Spurs the Timberwolves take it to seven with the Spurs, but then the Spurs went in seven, and then the Sixers get swept.
Jackson: Okay. Okay.
Thomas: Alright. That's ridiculous. I think we I think it's o Yeah, yeah, yeah. G
Todd: Wait.
Jackson: I thought you were gonna say something with Caleb Williams.
Todd: No, that's too that's too far in the future. But
Jackson: Okay. This podcast will support Caleb Williams ⁓ MVP tickets. I will have one.
Thomas: Ha ha.
Todd: Yeah, I mean he's he's definitely what he won. Probably this year.
Thomas: I mean at this point at this point. We had the we had the Bears Eagles alliance until we played, so there was that little bit of fandom for both.
Jackson: Yeah. Is it ⁓ Lut Luther Burden ⁓ twelve hundred yard season?
Todd: No, Caleb loves to spread the wealth. Like I think like we got Colston, we got this new tight end. We still have Kemet. Rome. Thieneman, the Oregon safety. He's got he's a beast. We we we're
Jackson: Well it does. Who'd you draft in the first round? Or wait, did you
Thomas: ⁓ yeah. He's a dog. ⁓ you got this Sam Roosh kid. You got the Stanford tight end. ⁓
Jackson: Did you get anyone called?
Todd: ⁓
Jackson: Who else did y'all did y'all draft any skill players?
Todd: Yeah, we drafted a wide receiver from like L S U, I wanna say like Zay something or Xavian.
Jackson: Xavier Thomas. That's fire. ⁓ yeah, he's the tight end. He's like s he's like six eight or something.
Todd: Yeah. He ran No, this guy ran like a four he ran like a four two five or
Thomas: Yeah, Xavier Thomas. No Xavier and Thomas is a wide receiver.
Jackson: ⁓ yeah, never mind. Wrong I'm looking
Thomas: Four two eight. Sec yeah. Good comms, Todd. Yeah. And then you got Logan Jones, the the center. Yeah.
Todd: He's very quick.
Jackson: Fuck yeah. ⁓ Sam sam yeah, Sam Roosh. He looks like a
Todd: Cool. We got we got to retain that.
Thomas: Sam Rush is the Stanford tight end, yeah. Damn.
Jackson: Why is he why does he look like a cornball, dude? Why has he got the nerd glasses with the white tape in the middle? That's true. Yeah.
Thomas: Ha ha ha.
Todd: You ignore your you don't want your You want to stand here?
Thomas: That's the bad part. The white tape's the bad part.
Todd: He looks like the g the cookie from Ned's the Classified.
Thomas: Sweet. All right. Well, I think we we gave our hot takes. Got a an hour long first podcast. And ⁓ yeah, s absolutely not. Talking Andre Drummond's career to Zamboni drivers and if they're autistic and of course the Rossini files, man, that was that was pretty good. It was pretty good.
Jackson: Seamless. No hiccups at all. We may set a new record for time to get cancelled one episode.
Thomas: Maybe. Who knows? We might have to we might have to work on that.
Jackson: Maybe w it was the autism talks and like the five minute mark that may have done it, bro.
Thomas: Yeah. People don't even watch the next fifty five minutes of the podcast because ⁓
Jackson: Yeah. Yeah, if you're watching at this point, you're a real ass person.
Todd: Autism's fine now, but that gives one alive. No one's watching. No, no.
Thomas: Yeah, that's a good one. ⁓ Sweet. All right. Well, ⁓ well, ⁓ same time next week. Maybe not. Maybe so.
Jackson: How do we su how do we sign this shit off in a non corny way?
Thomas: I was gonna say like I was gonna quote the little description. Yeah, one, two, three, break. Yeah. I was gonna say we could quote the little description. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I was saying we could quote the quote the description. The the bad guys giving worse takes. The outro, should we do like a allier like music and ⁓ Alright. Alright, we'll end it. See ya. Deadpan stop right now.
Todd: Well just now.
Jackson: Ready, break. That's horrible. We'll we'll workshop that. We'll workshop that.
Todd: I think you can just end it. You don't need a you don't need an outro you can you can just end it. No
Jackson: ⁓ God.
Todd: I think you just gotta end it.
Jackson: Just deadpan stop it.
Todd: Like a Kubrick.
